spun on looms by magic hands...

domestic stories

on flat roofs near kitchen stoves

desk arrayed with art

glory in stone walls...

spacious square for gathering

to protest abuse

bags full of veggies,

fresh fruits, herbs, a floral spray -

earth's generous yield

6

breathless climb to see

across a valley of need

an empty plate shines

7

after rains, sun sets

behind a mossy shelter

no sound of laughter

floating on air petals fall

while clouds gently pass

vast potentials rise

labyrinths of aisles

baubles, benches, baskets gleam

shifting planet sighs

driverless VAL speeds

along silver rails in town

platforms fill with crowds

5

squares, streets, parks, boutiques

lined up beside avenues

breathing history

nuanced inflections

in rooms of conversations

empty glasses ring

a dog's nose pushes deeper

exploring autumn

organza pages

tea bags slow-stitched with verses

love's spoken textures

2

miniature stacks

life-filled papery photos

words covered by ink

3

lost garden step-stone

where fresh rosemary lingers

young squirrels scurry past

4

whispers of old hills

rosy at sundown, blue now

on my own at dawn

5

books by hands fashioned

shared time with eager makers

calico cat naps

jar for tea to share

found among discarded things

a portrait of Mom

7

dog tails whip my legs

closing the gate as I pass

cicada songs trill

Haikus one hundred twenty-seven to one hundred thirty-three

Summer's End
1
Honey glows golden
in a jar almost empty
but for memory
2
Streets lined with tables
abundant, piled wares displayed,
crowds peer intently
3
Rushing feet scramble
toward doors left closed for months
school bells ring again
4
Hang up the straw hat
gather umbrella and coat -
September changes
5
Long days disappear
beyond shortened horizons -
ever-cycling earth
6
Liquid hours firm up
to begin punctually,
agendas return
7
Watching leaves turn, fall
in colorful pirouettes
I'm a child once more

Haikus one hundred twenty to one hundred twenty-six

My Favorite Things
1
Bonjour from the guys
who ring up my groceries
neighborhood kindness
2
At the copy shop
small change can wait until next time
trust makes life gentle

Eggshells and teabags
clutter my kitchen counter -
everything's perfect

Small keepsakes I found
buds, pods round black seeds, white puff
life at Cerisy
5
Weathered doorknob turns
opens secrets left behind
still fine though rusted
6
Elegant trumpet,
vase adorned with your beauty -
ephemeral joy
7
Bright yellow flower
picked freshly from a garden -
carry sun's blessing!

Haikus one hundred and thirteen to one hundred and nineteen

When I Dream
1
Climbing, walking near
windows, doors, long corridors -
what will I find there?
2
Shimmering waters
beckon, soft fabrics float by
where I linger, mute
3
Long views, open doors
paths lead me further along
some urgent wind song
4
Builders bringing stones
to this field where I will stay -
familiar new home
5
Rooms piled up with thought
even in corners, hiding
until discovered
6
Fresh breezes wafting
across my view so freely -
here, I can wonder
7
Another threshold -
entering, I see unfold
dream layered on dream

Haikus one hundred and six to one hundred and twelve

Watery worlds
1
Dunes facing waves' force
sit like referees at games
where people gather
2
Seen - sails, swimmers move
in water, bare feet skim sands
seagrass clings to shore
3
At low tide treasure
appears, glinting in the sun -
mollusks, seaweed, shells
4
At season's end, seed
falls and follows windy streams
dried cattails release
5
Lonely survivors
carry on their ancient rites -
family koi pond
6
Pitter patternings
astride the curb reflect shapes
of giants above
7
Stream made on mountains,
trickles and flows through forests,
revisits my soul
